한국과 일본, 중국이 원산지인 붓꽃과에 속하는 여러해살이풀.
Winding-leaf iris is a perennial plant belongs to Iridaceae
which are native to Korea, Japan and China.
붓꽃과 비슷하지만 잎이 비틀려서 꼬이는 모양이
Although it looks similar to iris,
its leaves resemble a skein of thread
꼭 실타래 같다고 하여  ‘타래붓꽃’이라는 이름이 붙었다.
so that it is referred to as ‘Tarae-butkkot’ in Korean
meaning ‘skein iris’.

연한 자주색의 꽃은 잎보다 짧은 꽃자루 위에 피며,
Light purple flowers bloom on the flower stalk
which is shorter than the leaves of the plant.
안쪽에 있는 세 장의 꽃덮이조각(花被片)은 곧추서지만
Three internal tepals are straight up, 
바깥쪽에 있는 꽃덮이조각은 옆으로 퍼지며 끝은 아래로 숙여진다.

크기는 30~50cm 정도이며, 가을에 씨를 따서 햇볕에 말린 것을
