[Korean Native Plants at the Korea National] Lilac daphne
Lilac daphne is a deciduous and broad-leaf shrub,
found on the coastal areas of Korea.
It is a poisonous plant that grows on a sunny side.
Its oval-shaped leaves are oppositely arranged.
Light purple flowers are borne in March and
April prior to leaves appear .
Its similarity to Lilac daphne has given
its another Korean name, Patkkotnamu (lilac daphne tree).
On the west coastal regions of Korea,
it’s also called
yellow corvina flower tree
as its flowers bloom
when yellow corvinas migrate for spawning.
Its bark is material for paper making and
the flower bud
and roots are
used for medicinal purposes.
